Dinara Safina Gets Top Seed at US Open
Dinara Safina is the No. 1 seed in the women's draw for the 2009 U.S. Open. That shouldn't be a surprise - most tournaments follow the world rankings when handing out seeds, and Safina is currently ranked No. 1. But Serena Williams is the defending champion, and won Wimbledon a month ago.

Elena Dementieva won the Toronto Cup, beating the comebacking Maria Sharapova in the finals, 6-4 6-3. It was Dementieva's third tournament victory of 2009.
